The STR-AN1000 is a perfect match for my Sony A80J OLED TV. You can't go wrong with this AVR. Excellent audio for music and movies when matched with the right speakers.

I was very happy with my previous AVR, but when it failed I took the opportunity to get up to date and after some research I settled on this. I am so happy I did.The positive reviews were not lying. This AVR sounds down right amazing considering the price point. Love the Chromecast feature as well as the Spotify integration. However, it's the movie audio that really shines. After the very short calibration, their 360 spatial sound mapping when switched on really makes such a huge difference. Most of us will not be able to make a dedicated theater room, so this do the corrections for speaker placement is next level. Not to mention their virtual speaker placement technology. I don't know how it's done, but when I 1st used it, this thing had me amazed at sound placement from areas where the sound should be coming from, but I know I had no speaker there.Even the short calibration was impressive. At the end of the process it knows not only where you are in relation to listening position, but it also knows exactly where each and every speaker is relative to each other in the room including their height. Remarkable. OCD me verified the measurements which you can displayed, with a laser measuring tool. Now my biggest issue is that I now feel the need to go through all my movie collection to hear the difference.

I've been a Pioneer-addict since the early 1970s, when receivers were insanely heavy, but sound was wonderfully rich and full. Over the years I've purchased many more Pioneers, some better than others, but they all still had a certain "punch" or fullness that I could coax out of them. I decided to go with this Sony STR-AN1000 because of the wireless subwoofer option, and my better half wanted the subwoofer across the room and no visible cables. I paired the STR-AN1000 with the Sony SA-SW5 300W Wireless Subwoofer and into my existing Bose surround speakers, replacing a Pioneer VSX-1180 that did not have 4k capability. Went through the setup for the STR-AN1000, pretty straightforward including the sound calibration. The wireless subwoofer connected right away with zero problems, definitely a plus as I was expecting some kind of snafu. Once everything was set up and calibrated, I put on an action movie with a bunch of surround in it - the result did not really impress. It was good, but only good. That massive, expensive subwoofer works, but it's nothing to write home about. All in all, it's not as good as the Pioneer it replaced from a sound quality perspective, or maybe I have to tinker with it some more. Another thing I noticed is that there isn't a lot of power in terms of raw volume. Again, it's a mediocre, disappointing experience. I know there are high-end receivers and subwoofers that cost a lot more than this, but for well over $1,300 for the pair seems like there would be at least some "wow" factor. Still, 4 stars because it all worked first try and was easy to set up. I'll keep toying with it and see if I can find a way to make it shine, but at this point, "meh".
